ASEAN, which actively to promote regional integration in recent years, is an important power of global economy. For Taiwan, how to strengthen the linkages to ASEAN is a topic worthy of a deep investigation. There are 10 member countries in ASEAN, and among of them, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam are the 6 main trading partners of Taiwan. Are there significant differences in trade situations among these countries? Furthermore, what are the comparative advantages of these countries, so they can export some products? It is necessary to discuss these problems if Taiwan hopes to enhance the linkages to ASEAN. This study tries to capture trade situations of ASEAN’s countries, and then analyze them by literature of comparative advantages, to gain insight about the topic of how to strengthen the linkages between Taiwan and ASEAN. Firstly, literature of comparative advantages was reviewed; secondly, trade situations of Taiwan and ASEAN were analyzed; thirdly, comparative advantages of ASEAN’s countries were identified; and lastly, research results were discussed. |
