Drama, along with poetry, prose and fiction, is included in the literary genre. It embodies elements such as literature and art, stories, cultures, and aesthetics, which plays a significant role in language learning. In addition, the dialogues among the characters can be regarded as authentic texts, which can enhance learners’ interests and efficiency in learning languages and cultures. Currently, Chinese reading teaching materials, methodologies, and researches focus mostly on the writing styles of paragraphs and the corresponding reading and writing strategies. The paragraphs are mostly narrative, descriptive, argumentative and applied ones. This study demonstrates the application of ADDIE model, integrating the 5C standards for foreign language learning and the Pyramid in Freytag’s drama structural framework. Also, with the implementation of literary reviews on Chinese reading, drama, and literary teaching theories, Chinese drama reading teaching design for adult Chinese learners is constructed. Moreover, this study demonstrates the development of Chinese drama reading lesson plan procedures based on the contemporary acclaimed Chinese drama, Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land. It aims to enhance learners’ appreciation of drama and the ability of reading comprehension in Chinese learning classes. It also ensures that adult Chinese learners would be fond of reading multiple Chinese texts and integrating Chinese literature and cultural literacy into their daily lives. |
