隨著台灣高齡人口逐漸增加，失智人口也隨之增加。近年來，慢性腎臟病的認知障礙愈來愈受重視。失智症及慢性腎衰竭皆屬於長期慢性及特殊性的疾病，且二者具有關聯性，因此在臨床治療與照護時，若能瞭解失智症原因及症狀，就能早期發現、早期接受治療，控制且減緩病情惡化，維持患者心智功能及生活品質，減輕照護者的負擔。
