The rapid development of electronic devices, the internet, and information technology has enabled online information transmission and education. Current students in higher education, mostly known as “Generation Z” (born 1997-2012), grew up with these technologies and are used to obtaining information online. E-learning or e-education therefore becomes a modern medium for teaching and learning. However, e-learning also has its limitations. In contrast, a collaborative e-learning model that adopts emerging multimedia and team collaboration is an essential part of instructional design for a learner-centered online course. Furthermore, combining multiple learning modes, rather than e-learning alone, is recommended as a future trend in higher education. It is expected that applying this e-learning model and techniques in the virtual classroom will promote and benefit multigenerational learning that optimizes students’ learning experiences and outcomes. |
