The major cause of eosinophilic meningitis in the Pacific Islands and Taiwan is Angiostrongylus cantonensis. Most patients are infestated after eating raw or undercooked molluscan intermediate hosts and paratenic hosts that contain the infestatious third-stage larvae of the worm. Cases of patients infected by Ampullarium cantonensis snails usually resulted from accidental ingestion. But in this report, we present a case of a patient who attempted suicide through eating Ampullarium canaliculatus and was then diagnosed as eosinophilic meningoencephalitis. |
