"A potyvirus isolated from an ornamental plant (Allamanda cathartica) in central Taiwan was characterized. The 3' terminal nucleotide (nt) sequence of 1670 nt of the viral RNA genome has been determined, which covered the 3'-half of the large nuclear inclusion protein (NIb), full-length coat protein (CP) gene and the 3' nontranslated region (NTR). The CP gene consisted of 804 nt (including the stop codon) encoding 267 amino acid residues, and the 3' NTR was 233 nt in length excluding the poly-A tail. Sequence comparison of the amino acids of CPs showed that this virus was most closely related to Zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) and Soybean mosaic virus Uraria strain (SMV-Uraria) with percent identities of 64.2% and 63.6%, respectively. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that this allamanda–associated Potyvirus is distinct from those potyviruses of domestic origins, and thus the name Allamanda mosaic virus (AllaMV) is proposed." |
