"Purpose: This study analyzes different volleyball serving techniques that players from Western countries in Europe and America and players from Asian countries use. Method: In this study, the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship final, a match between Poland and Brazil, and the final round of the men's tournament in volleyball at the 2018 Asian Games, a match between Iran and South Korea, were analyzed. The analysis investigates three serving techniques: the power jump serves, the jump float serves, and the floater serves. These techniques will result in a service point, a service error, a weakened offense in the opponent team, or a serve-reception. Descriptive statistics are used to show data on Asian volleyball players’ and Western volleyball players’ performance, including the number of serves, the serving styles used, and the number of service points, service errors, weakened offenses in the opponent team, and serve-receptions each team had. Multiple logistic regression analysis sets volleyball serves as dependent variables, which are divided into a service point (a reference group), a service error, a weakened offense in the opponent team, or a serve-reception. Regions including Asia and America and the type of volleyball serves they use (power jump serves and jump float serves) are set as the independent variables, and the level of significance is set to α = .05. Results: The results of this study show that there are no significant differences in the types of volleyball serves between Asia and Western countries in Europe and America, and there are also no significant differences in the number of power jump serves and jump float serves. Conclusion: In competitions between teams of comparable strength, stable and strong jump float serves will be one of the main serving patterns in the future. Well-performed jump float serves not only effectively destroy the opponent's serve-receive, but also weaken the opponent team’s offense. " |
