"The average hospitalization days of orthopedic patients are short, and resuscitation rates are low. These factors result in the delay of equipment preparation for resuscitation and affect on the quality of care during resuscitation in the orthopedic ward. It is our motivation of setting a team for the project. In order to understand the current situation, the project team conducted a survey between January 10 and April 30 2019. The survey results demonstrated that only 61.8% of orthopedic nurses were capable of completing resuscitation, and 60.9% equipped with the knowledge of performing effective and accurate resuscitation. The solution of the project included the assignment of roles in a case of resuscitation, implementation of educational media, establishing a resuscitation simulation, designing resuscitation Kardex with several methods that may provide improvements. Results revealed that the completion rate of resuscitation amongst orthopedic nurses increased to 96.5% and the accuracy of resuscitation raised to 95.5%. After 10 months follow-up, the delay of equipment preparation for resuscitation reduced to zero cases. It is recommended that clinical simulation workshop related to the resuscitation scenario should be held regularly. This may increase the resuscitated proficiency for orthopedic nurses and reduce the preparation time of equipment, and improve the quality of care for the resuscitation of orthopedic patients." |
