"The full-scale bilingual structure of Taiwan’s educational system began in 2019, as the Ministry of Education(MOE)has officially formulated the 'Blueprint for Developing Taiwan into a Bilingual Nation by 2030,' according to which, in order to empower students to carry English into their daily life, some academic subjects shall be entirely taught in English in elementary and middle school education in Taiwan. However, there are numerous challenges to overcome in order to effectively promote the development of literacy skills by implementing the“Content and Language Integrated Learning(CLIL)”model in a non-native English speaking county. This article summarizes the CLIL initiatives implemented and research conducted in European countries, while highlighting the factors that affected the CLIL development and implementation, thereby bringing forward workable solutions to the identified problems." |
