No other area of assessment has generated as much attention, controversy, and debate as the testing of "intelligence." This article is designed to focus on an introduction for the criteria in diagnosis of autistic disorder and intelligence tests used in such assessment. Different perspectives are presented and discussed to make several recommendations including (1) selecting appropriate standardized measures of intelligence, (2) employing multiple assessments, (3) developing a comprehensive diagnostic system. Intelligence assessment plays a curial role in the diagnosis procedure. The test scores provide educators information to base decisions for classifying students and their choice of environment. As a result, it is highly recommended to carefully use a comprehensive assessment of intelligence for diagnosing students with autism. Finally, appropriate classroom instructions and related services may be delivered to meet the special needs of such children |
