The early intervention programs provided to children with special needs have been moving towards family-centered since 1980's. The most important goal of family-centered services was to improve the overall well-being of the whole families of those children. By switching the objects of services from young children and their main caregivers (usually their mothers) to the families, there was a significant change of early intervention conceptually and implementation of service providing.In this article the author, through literature review, attempted to probe the implications of family-centered service in early intervention programs, and the importance of parental role in the service providing processes. |
