從儒生到儒臣與儒將：曾國藩對儒學價值的體現

From scholars to the Confucians and Confucianism General Tseng Kuo-fan embodiment of Confucian values

曾國藩是中國近代史開端初期的人物，他以一介儒生從傳統科舉考試進而入朝為官，歷任中央官職，在偶然的機緣參與地方團練，編練湘軍追剿太平軍而建立功勳。在直隸總督任內辦理天津教案，接觸對外的實際交涉，提出他以「忠信篤敬」的外交基本原則；在擔任兩江總督時，引進西方的機器製造技術，認為西學等同於傳統儒家的性命之學，上書派遣童子赴美留學。曾國藩在他所處的時代，一方面除了「秩序維持」之外，另一方面也能「開創新局」。這是曾國藩在現代常被拿來討論的地方。曾國藩是一位熟讀儒家書籍，並且以捍衛儒家思想與信仰為使命的人。儒學在曾國藩的身上起了一種新的變革。第一，恢復了儒家兼收並蓄的傳統，不再囿於一說。第二，恢復了儒家入世的精神，也就是經世致用。第三，吸收和引進西學。是「舊時代的最後一位儒家，也是步入新時代、大動盪、大轉變時代的一位儒家」。在曾國藩身上我們看到儒學兼容並包、與積極進取的元素；儒學的中心思想與價值觀也在曾國藩的身上具體的顯現出來。本論文是基於以上的觀點，藉此提出曾國藩對儒學的吸收、整理、應用，並將之體現於做人、做事、作官的領域，成就了修身、齊家、治國、平天下的儒學理想目標。並希望通識教育的規劃中，核心通識能重視儒學的教學與研究。
