Before the change in 1895,Taiwanese women were a disadvantaged group under the oppression of patriarchy. Although, the Colonial government was more liberal than that of the Qing government, and women have made progress in basic education, activities, and social perspectives after 1895. However, the new governance method still cannot be completely separated from the old customs.And the Feminist in Taiwan still cannot keep up with the pace of modern civilization. In such a social environment, Li Yi-Tao' s novels have written a lot of women who are different from traditional ones. They get rid of the shackles of their husbands and children, go out of the family, have a career, and have a firm sense of autonomy in their physical desires. This article will summarize the female characters in the novel, try to describe Li Yi-Tao 's portrayal of modern women, and understand the new female images drawn by traditional literati 's old novels. |
