This study aims to discuss the factors in the brain drain of youth baseball players in Taitung County. Document analysis and an interview survey are utilized to find the crucial factors in Taitung youth baseball players’ emigration from their hometown and to propose strategies to improve the situation. Conclusion: Crucial factors in the brain drain of Taitung youth baseball players include: (1) Inflexibility in the subsidy for the youth baseball team (2) Shortage of full-time coaches (3) Lack of regulations on the outflow of players (4) Insufficient space for training and hosting games, and (5) Planning of further studies for the players. The specific recommendations made by this research are: (1) Central and local governments should frame granting programs for outstanding baseball athletes in remote areas, such as offering school admission scholarships and subsidies to improve living conditions, so that the talents will be retained in Taitung. (2) The four-level baseball pyramid training to be established among schools in Taitung; and efforts in nurturing baseball talents and smoothing their transition from one level to the next within the county to be intensified. |
