The aim of this study was to explore the effectiveness of online Key-image teaching strategies for Chinese as a foreign language learners (CFL). This study explored the difference between the learning outcomes of CFL learners in the online learning environment using different methods: Key-image or stroke order animation, and analyzed the learners’ preference for the two teaching strategies. In this study, 62 Panamanian Chinese language learners from the Centro Cultural Chino Panameño Instituto Sun Yat Sen, aged between 16 and 17, with a basic Chinese proficiency were used as the research participants. Participants in this study were divided into two groups of 31 people per group. The experimental group used the Key-image teaching strategy, and the control group used the stroke order animation teaching strategy. All learning materials were the same, and Microsoft Teams were used for online teaching. The results of the study found that the Key-image teaching strategy was significantly better than the stroke order teaching group in terms of the learners’ literacy and handwriting effectiveness. Participants also had a good acceptance of the Key-image teaching method and believed that it could help them learn Chinese characters more efficiently. |
