Objectives: This study developed and applied mobile application (APP) for acupuncture care, and then tested its effect on the quality of message delivery and usability, and compared it with traditional regimen in time requirement. Methods: This quasi-experimental study recruited a convenience sample of 30 medical staff from acupuncture clinics in a regional hospital, and allocated them into the experimental or control group. Data were collected from 100 patients in each group by recording time requirement for acupuncture procedure, by using the quality of message delivery scale and system usability scale. Results: The quality of message delivery scores averaged 3.90~4.01, which was significantly different from an pre-specified value (p< .05), indicating that the mobile App's integrity, correctness and timeliness. The average system usability scores was 62.17 (>50), which indicated ease of use. There was a significant difference between using the mobile APP and the traditional regiment in time required for processing acupuncture treatment The time for mobile APP regiment was longer than that for traditional regiment. Conclusion: The mobile APP provides superior quality of message delivery and it could be used to communicate in clinics. Although this mobile APP required more time in acupuncture procedure than the traditional regimen, the users were satisfied with it usability. To improve the communication quality of medical professionals, education and practice should be provided in the future, which help them to familiarize the system so as to promote the quality care of acupuncture and patient safety. |
