In Taiwan, there are certain numbers of university students from Japan who have their family roots in Taiwan. On the way to enter university in Taiwan, what kind of options were there and how did they select this course? This study aims to clarify those options and process of making decision by three Japanese students who grew up in Japanese - Taiwanese intercultural families, and entered university in Taiwan as a degree student. Trajectory Equifinality Model (TEM) was used to visualize this process. Result shows that each of the three has different way from the other two. On the other hand, three common factorswere found, which are family, relatives in Taiwan, self-awareness, to promote their decision,. Since their mother conducts very good Japanese, Chinese or Taiwanese were not inherited in their family and they had each different experience and attitude to it. Life stories of these subjects gave a glimpse of their mother acting an initiative role in their family by considering their children's independency and relationship with relatives in Taiwan, giving appropriate support to children when it is needed. Further research is needed to indicate different aspects of process of selecting courses by person who has plural cultural background. |
