When we speak of Greater China or Greater China Region it is a term often used to refer to China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. The term Greater China does not necessarily imply sovereignty, but rather suggests cultural and economic ties between these territories. This paper intends to focus on the social and economic interaction between the members of Greater China and their relations with the rest of the world rather than on any political issues. China and Taiwan have lost many economic opportunities to grow in the past because of the politics disputes that both countries have engaged in. In the current enthusiasm for trade liberalization the reality of a coherent Greater China is a model that can and will contribute to a better world. This paper hopes that with the increase in economic prosperity this will eventually result in the creation and implementation of an overall free trade agreement that will honor and encourage the free exchange of not only economic energies, but also a liberal exchange of cultural and political ideas. |
