The Wuwei Hantanpo medicine slips of the Han Dynasty, unearthed from a grave yard at Han-tan-po, Wuwei County, Gansu Province, including 78 bamboo ones, and 14 wooden ones, totaling to 92 pieces. The medicine slips ,which dated back to the time of Guang-Wu Emperor under Jian-Wu reign title in East Han Dynasty (approximately 25AD to 55AD), recorded around 30 prescriptions, · including internal medicine, surgery, gynecology , otolaryngology, ophthalmology , and so on. While the recorded medicines are nearly one hundred kinds, the name of the disease, the symptom of the disease, the dosage, the preparation method of the medicine ,the instruction of medicine-taking, the time for medicine-taking, and many other different prescriptions with its particular purpose were recorded in detail as well. The contents are not only rich but are also important for the study of the ancient Chinese medical science. Among these prescriptions, only two of them are related to the treatment for cough. Viewing from these two prescriptions, we are able to get a glimpse of the concepts regarding to cold and fever symptoms and the practical value of the prescriptions in Han Dynasty. |
