Railway systems are important footstones of green transportation, but they are also very expensive. Thus, it is necessary to evaluate the capacity and level of service of a rail system so as to maximize its benefit under limited resources. When Taipei Metro commenced commercial service, it had no capacity problems because the ridership was light. As the total passenger amount grew, capacity problems emerged. However, research on the analysis of rail capacity for urban rapid transit systems is quite deficient in Taiwan. Thus, this study developed a model for rail capacity analysis and applied the model to calculate the capacities of the Banqiao-Nangang Line. The empirical study results showed that Taipei Main Station and Zhongxiao Fuxing Station are the bottlenecks. Through sensitivity analysis, some strategies to improve rail capacity are also suggested. |
