This study tests a static traffic assignment method, a heuristicdynamic model, and an instantaneous dynamic user-optimal (DUO ) trafficassignment method. The testing network of Taiwan north region consists of 79traffic zones, 994 nodes and 2373 links. The major findings of the study aresummarized as follows: (1 ) static and dynamic traffic assignment methodsproduce different traffic flow patterns, (2 ) dynamic traffic assignment methodscan describe timely changes of traffic flow patterns, (3) the computationalefforts spent on the DUO dynamic traffic assignment method is very large, and(4) the heuristic dynamic method is capable to produce a reasonable dynamicsolution quickly so as to avoid complicated computing for the dynamic trafficassignment method. |
