Math anxiety, a feeling of uncertainty, helplessness, and fear of mathematics, affects students' learning and performance. To understand the level of math anxiety of Taiwanese college students learning calculus, this study translated the original English version of Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale-Revised (MARS-R) into Chinese and evaluated the translation, construct, and criterion-related validity with the Mathematics SelfEfficacy Scale. The modified Chinese MARS-R comprises 16 items, 11 in learning math anxiety and 5 in math evaluating anxiety subscales respectively. The modified MARS-R is robust and demonstrated a negative correlation with the Mathematics SelfEfficacy Scale. Our revised MARS-R is highly suitable for evaluating math anxiety in both female and male Chinese college students learning calculus. |
