The study is aimed to conduct the performance assessment for identifying the mathematically and scientifically giftedness (PAMSG). 11 items of performance assessment was developed by the experts and gifted class teachers in the mathematics and sciences field. 49 junior high students participated the pre-test of PAMSG. Six items was selected as formal test according to the higher internal-consistent coefficients. We recruited 150 junior high students whose score of scholastic aptitude test above 97 percentage rank join the formal test. As for the reliability, the coefficients of internal consistency for mathematical and scientific sub-test were .77 and .61, for integrated test was .77. The correlation coefficients between the two sub-tests was .40, indicating the internal discriminant validity. The score of PAMSG positively predicted the subsequent academic performance of the mathematics and sciences discipline. We have discussed the reliability and validity of the PAMSG, and provided the potential application. |
