Based on structural realism (SR), neoliberal institutionalism (NLI), and social constructivism with the systemic concern (SC), this essay carefully examines the six hypotheses respectively. By doing so, the essay clarifies and answers two basic research questions. First, what are the factors that influence the decision-making of states (or the group of states) to other actors? Second, whether, in the different dimensions such as military or economic issue-area, power, interest and idea as variables would exercise their influence differently? The conclusion is that SR enjoys a better capability to analyze the issue of why arms embargo operated by the EU, and its coherence of theoretical logic between military and economic events is obvious solid. On the other hand, NLI inevitably encounters the problem of constrains at home by domestic societal preference. Last, SC is good at specific case study with comprehensive inquiry, but downplays the possibility of theoretical generalization as well as suffers from the limitation of temporal effects. |
