This article concerns the schooling in New Zealand from primary to secondary school level. Before I commence I would like to introduce myself in the hopes of you gaining a better insight into my thinking and experiences. I am a Taiwanese who moved to New Zealand in 1989 with my parents. Recently I graduated from the University of Auckland majoring in Education and Psychology. At the present moment I am a Masters student via correspondence from the University of Wollongong in Australia majoring in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL). With my educational-based academic background, I have taken the time to look at the education system in New Zealand and what Asian students can expect when they arrive here. Teachers, students and parents in Taiwan are encouraged to compare and contrast their schooling to that of New Zealand's to gain a better insight into a Westernised system of learning. |
