The purpose of this article was to explore a nursing experience for a first time stroke patient with recurrent cerebrovascular accident. From March 26 to April 11, 2019, data were collected through observation, interview, physical assessment, and chart review according to Gordon' 11 functional health patterns. The major nursing problems identified included deficient knowledge, impaired physical mobility, self-care deficit, impaired swallowing, and anxiety. Through cross-disciplinary teamwork and developing rehabilitation and swallow training programs, the author improved the physical mobility, self-care, and swallowing/eating function of the patient. By providing knowledge of stroke and recurrent cerebrovascular accident, the author relieved the anxiety of the patient. Hopefully, this nursing experience can serve as a reference for the care of such patients. |
