The Central Asian countries began their economic reform when they became independent sovereignties. They were parts of the former Soveit Union organized under central planning and today experience comparatively backward economy, a conservative society/community, and complex racial problems. Therefore, their economic transformation seems to be more difficult than other pst communist republics. Their ruling elite prefer the model of Asian tigers which provides justification for sustaining their authoritative regime. In the foreseeable future, Central Asia's economic development will be limited, but over the long run no one can ignore its potential. It is an area full of business opportunities. In promoting economic actitiveis and investment, one the needs to be cautious and make long-term plans. |
