If we compare Russia-PRC economic-trade relations with these of Russia-Taiwan, we find they are not symmetrical. Russia has signed various official economic trade, scientific-technical cooperative agreements with China. The two sides are also developing contacts/cooperation among their enterprises via growing border trade. In contrast, Taiwan has no official relations with Russia; Taiwanese enterprises must go it alone with no government support. However, if Russia-PRC governmental yearly trade contracts, arms sales, and official cooperative projects are deducted from the total bilateral trade, Russia-PRC trade does not appear so impressive. Russian's economic-trade levels with China and Taiwan are therefore much greater than they appear on the surface. |
