Globalization studies has been a popular turn-of-the-century research topic. This article is designed to summarize the definitions, functions, and impacts of globalization as found in the leading scholarship on the subject. After discussing the four schools of globalization studies-Neo-Marxism, Neo-Liberalism, the Transformationalist Thesis, and the Skeptical Thesis, the article critically compares and contrasts the similarities and differences found in these four approaches. Finally, the article proposes four principles of globalization studies-qualitative, quantitative, interdisciplinary, and value-free judgment. |
