The establishment of Sino-American strategic partnership relations (SASPR) is an important milestone in foreign affairs between the United States and the PRC. SASPR provides a consultative mechanism for the United States and PRC in proceeding with tight political negotiations. The tense relationship between the United States and PRC is over, but other issues, such as human rights, Tibet, and Taiwan, may affect the PRC's contact with the United States. Therefore, SASPR's development remains uncertain and unpredictable. In this article, our discussion focuses on: (1)What is the background of the SASPR?; (2)what are its implications and developments?; (3)What is its influence upon Taiwan's national defense?; and (4)what will Taiwan's national defense policy be in the foreseeable future? |
