The progression of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) role in Taiwan has advanced in regulation, education and professional status during the last twenty seven years. Working predominantly within the hospitals of the nation, the certified NPs are working toward enlarging the role by developing protocols with their physician colleagues and further demonstrating their competence and safe practice. Additional opportunities and challenges are open to NPs who want to continue to move the role forward and play a larger part within the health care system of Taiwan. The future of NP’s practice is discussed.
