Fatigue is a high prevalent and complicated symptom which impacts on patients’ physical and mental function. Malignant tumors have been the leading cause of death in Taiwan since 1982, with lung cancer accounting for 20.1% of all cancer-related deaths. Lung resection is not only the radical treatment for early stage of lung cancer patients, but also is the primary treatment. Fatigue is a chronic symptom, which is often ignored by health care providers. More than half of patients never reported to their physicians about their fatigue symptom. Fatigue will cause collapsed lung, decreased heart function, lung function, and muscle strength, depression, increase surgical complication rate, and impair resiliency. The influential factors and clinical management of fatigue in lung-cancer patients receiving resectional pulmonary surgery were discussed in the article. |
