The organizational culture of a social welfare organization is influential on the social workers, especially for the faith-based nonprofit organizations. The study purposed to (1) explore the cultural shocks and personal feelings of the social workers when they are employed in the faith-based organization initially; (2) understand how those social workers adapted to the culture shocks. This study applied qualitative research method by in-depth interviews on 7 non-Christian social workers employed in 6 faith-based organizations. The results show that those social workers experienced negative feelings, low recognition of organizational culture, and confusion about the priority of profession or religion. The results also show the interviewees finally adjusted to the organizational culture by the acceptance of the culture shocks, the understanding and support from supervisors and leaders, and initiative to realize the belief under organizational culture. The findings and implications are also discussed. |
