This report describes the recovery room nursing experience of a 22-year-old Vietnamese male worker after undergoing reconstructive surgery due to an injury. Nursing took place from 14:20 to 16:15 on October 22, 2013. Both objective and subjective data were collected by the author through listening, interviewing, and physical assessment. A comprehensive assessment was performed and identified three nursing care areas of need: 1) post-surgery impaired tissue integrity; 2) pain; and, 3) mild anxiety due to concern over left index finger function. The author was compassionate and caring, engaging in immediate postoperative nursing, and cooperating with the factory director and friends. Consequently, tissue perfusion in the affected area was maintained and wound pain was alleviated. After gaining a better understanding of the foreign worker’s needs during communication with the hospital staff, the author was able to clear away mental issues and reduce the patient’s anxiety. Taiwan is becoming an immigrating society. It is recommended to provide simple medical language training for healthcare providers, such as Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thai. …, etc. Development of multimedia and graphic health education information with different languages to help clinical nurses to use when facing foreigners is also critical. |
