Background and Purpose: One of the important body joints is the shoulder joint. In orthopedic clinics, shoulder pain is a very common musculoskeletal complaint Subacromial impingement syndrome is the most common shoulder complaint, especially among people who do overhead activities. Its prevalence is 16-40%. Kinesio taping is widely used in the field of rehabilitation and sport injuries. This study is a literature review on effects of kinesio taping in individuals with subacromial impingement syndrome. Methods: Studies that compared the effects of kinesio taping with other treatments in individuals with subacromial impingement syndrome from January 1995 to June 2014 were identified from PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane library, and Medline. Results and Discussion: Four articles were identified and reviewed. The findings suggested that kinesio taping could decrease pain, improve function, and increase painless shoulder abduction range of motion in individuals with subacromial impingement syndrome. Limitations of our study included the small number of articles reviewed, which were all published in English, and variations in study design, subject inclusion criteria and taping methods used in the studies. |
