Obesity, prone to complications, is an important global health issue. Obese patients often have to face negative image of being not beautiful, resulting in dissatisfaction with their body image. A review of related studies indicated that Bariatric surgery can effectively reduce body weight in obese patients, improve body shape and health, which in turn increase satisfaction of body image and enhance quality of life. This article can help further the understanding of bariatric surgery and the problem of negative body image among obese patients. Nurses should assess both physiological and psychological problems of obese patients so as to identify issues related to body image and tailor the nursing care to their needs. |
