Chinese Catalogue Cards of National Library of Peiping

本文首先以中國傳統文獻目錄學與現代學術發展之間的差距為切入點，探究國立北平 圖書館發行卡片目錄的初衷，即袁同禮現代編目理念形成的原因。其次還原國立北平圖書 館早期嘗試的歷程，並最終在美國學術界的積極介入、洛克菲勒基金會的贊助下，完成現 代中文書籍卡片目錄的編寫和發行。最後，討論書目卡片對美國各圖書館中文館藏建設、 編目實踐的影響。

The paper starts from the analysis of the growing gap between traditional Chinese bibliography and modern academic development, and it will probe into the original intention of the distribution of Chinese catalogue cards of National Library of Peiping, namely the underlying motivation for Yuan Tung-Li's modern catalogue idea. Next, it depicts National Library of Peiping's early attempts, its active participation in the American academic circles as well as the compilation and distribution of Chinese catalogue cards with the support of the Rockefeller Foundation. Lastly, this study also discusses National Library of Peiping's influence upon the arrangement and categorization of the Chinese collection in American libraries.
