Security is primary issue of nations' concerning. For the past few years Iran has accelerated the nuclear programme for protecting its energy security, but Iran's actions have damaged other nations' security. There is some evidence to suggest that the goal of Iran's nuclear programme is not civil but acquiring nuclear weapons, to violate an international agreement. As five permanent members of UN Security Council express different attitude to Iran's nuclear programme, and different attitude reveals that great powers have concerned different national interests, causing divergent opinions on this matter. Recently great powers are drifting towards a common consensus. Not only great powers agreed to refer Iran's nuclear issue to the Security Council on February 2006, but Security Council adopted resolution 1696 on July 2006. According to resolution 1696, Security Council demanded Iran suspend all enrichment-related and reprocessing activities, including research and development, or face the possibility of economic and diplomatic sanctions. Security Council have walked out the first step for Iran's nuclear issue, and if Security Council could deal with Iran's nuclear issue by proper means, Iran's model will become an example of solving the proliferation of nuclear weapons in the future. |
