Due to the rapid rise of China's power and threat, the Sino-U.S. strategic interactions has intensified in the Bush administration's second term. The Bush administration has strengthened its security cooperation with allies and its own military capabilities in East Asia. China on its part has taken a cautious attitude to deal with American military and political pressure. In general, the United States expects that China can be a responsible stakeholder to cooperate with it in maintaining international and regional stability. Under this policy, the Bush administration continues to help strengthen Taiwan's defense capability and encourage the resumption of cross-Strait dialogue. In facing the Bush administration's China policy, Beijing has recently proposed to collaborate with the United States to maintain the stability in Taiwan Strait, a development that deserves Taipei's attention and concern. |
