National RN license test results show that the lowest scores were basic medical sciences and medical-surgical nursing. Nursing students’ basic medical knowledge is inadequate, and difficult to apply in nursing practices. Basic medical knowledge application in nursing education problems include: basic medical and nursing knowledge are inadequate; the RN license test on basic medical science is much too complicated to link with the application of clinical care; traditional curriculum shows serious faults and decontextualized, and there appears to be a gap in learning.
Reform of basic medical disciplines education need to emphasize the basic structure of basic medical science, match the clinical situation, and provides learning platforms between the old and new knowledge. The strategies include: activation through curriculum, basic medical and nursing curricula integration, case sharing, and information technology involved in teaching. Solutions include finding ways to guide the learner to integrate knowledge and experience from basic knowledge, to converge new knowledge, and integrate coherently basic medical into teaching nursing skills, to allow students to gain comprehensive knowledge of nursing practices, and having appropriate nursing ractical experience. |
