The number of female doctors in Taiwan is increasing annually. Childbirth is a specialized field regarding the female body. We week for changes in this field with the increasing number of female doctors nowadays. Childbirth was historically divided into two opposing experts: the obstetrics and the midwifery. Currently, the demographic shifts from a male-dominated childbirth field is warrant. This paper shares the author's fieldwork experience in Denmark, a country in which there are more female doctors than male doctors. The gender equality rights led to the new development in the field of childbirth, and provide cooperation between midwives and doctors in the efforts to protect mothers' health. In 2016, gentle birth was put into effect in Taiwan. Within four years, gentle birth was successfully practiced in two hundred families. In the future, we claim support from the government to provide an environment with health and more self-empowering births in Taiwanese women. |
