Objective: To understand the welfare, schedule shifts, vacation schedule, work environment,physical stress, and mental stress of caregivers after implementation of the “One mandatory dayoff and one flexible rest day per week” program, and to explore the effects on their quality of life.Methods: This is a phenomenological study including a Giorgi data analysis step. Nursinghome caregivers and care attendants at a medical center in Taipei were enrolled. An interviewguide was prepared in advance, and the one-on-one face-to-face interview method was adopted.The recorded results were summarized.Results: In total of five care attendants were interviewed by using an intentional samplingmethod. According to the result summary, most of the staff believed that although the resting timewas sufficient, the current manpower was insufficient, work required long-term concentration,salary and benefits had a room for improvement, and feelings of being trivial and lack of selfrespectexisted at work.Conclusion: The industry management department should pay more attention to the feelingsof the caregiving staff by communicating with them and understanding their needs. Moreover,leisure or praise activities should be moderately organized to gather centripetal force andencourage morale. Moreover, a reasonable amount of rest should be provided to caregivers duringwork to reduce work stress, increase productivity, and improve their quality of life. |
