Nursing personnel are essential assets for hospitals. The physical and mental fatigue caused by their heavy workloads and long working hours affect professional efficiency and nursing quality, prompting the creation of a task force. Research showed that from May 11 to May 20, 2016, the workload scores of nursing personnel reached 103.9, meaning that nursing staff worked overtime and experienced low levels of work satisfaction. The solution proposed by this study was to amend standard working procedures for day shifts at the department of Trauma and Emergency Surgery, allocate the nurses manpower and supervision by head nurses for day shifts, design an acute care surgery handbook, and plan the schedule Surgical Intensive Care Unit patient transfer processes. This project effectively reduced the workload score to 47.6 for nursing personnel at the Surgical Ward Department, reduced overtime working on day shifts, and improved work satisfaction levels. Every working process should be reviewed and revised to continuously ameliorate nursing workload and provide nursing personnel with a high-quality work environment and happiness.
