This paper described the nursing experience of a 26-year-old male patient suffering from incomplete spinal cord injury. The nursing care was from August 27,2009 to October 2, 2009. In the process of holistic nursing practice based on the super-link system theory, the patient was found suffering from certain problems, including impaired physical mobility, powerlessness, and the despair of returning to work. An individual nursing care plan was made by consulting with the patient, his family members, members of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, and individuals from the community. Rehabilitation care and positive support were provided in order to motivate the patient to utilize his remaining ability to perform physical functions in the process of rehabilitation and to improve a sense of self-control and independence. Social service referrals were actively provided to enforce the patient's confidence and preparation of returning to work. The patient eventually overcame mental obstacles, faced the challenges, promoted a higher sense of self-esteem for a brighter outlook in returning to work, and further paved the way for going back to the society. |
