The purpose of this research is to explore the influences of music therapy on the physiological indices of premature babies. A quasi-experimental design with repetitive measures was applied. The heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen saturation were recorded at the 1st, 5th and 10th minute in three different situations, respectively: before music played, during music was playing, and after music stopped. Twenty seven premature babies were enrolled, of which averages of birth body weight, gestational age, the Apgar score and age were 1940.6 grams, 33.6 weeks, 8.7 and 8 days. The result revealed that the intervention of music therapy had significant relationship with the changes of the heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen saturation. That is, the heart rate, respiratory rate and blood oxygen saturation would increase after the music therapy and the babies sustained physiologically stable. The result of this study provides a basis of clinical nursing care of neonates. An appropriate approach of music therapy can improve the quality of care of premature babies. |
