The impact of cancer diagnosis to a patient is tremendous, especially to a woman with breast cancer facing body image disturbance after surgery. This paper described the nursing experience of a woman with breast cancer during postoperative period. The nursing period was from January 6 to 11 of 2012. The Gordon’s functional health assessment guide was used to assess nursing problems through direct care, observation, interviewing, and listening. The nursing problems included anxiety, knowledge deficit, and disturbance body image. During the period of care, the author provided the patient with holistic care with empathy and support. Also, we listened and applied various resources to educate arm exercise at home, helping her adapt to appearance and life change and adjust to positive appearance. This experience provided nurses with a reference for caring similar patients in the future. |
