In 2017, the Taiwan Alliance to End the Death Penalty initiated a public deliberation project inviting citizens from different parts of Taiwan to discuss alternatives to the death penalty. Although the final report of the project has not yet been completed, yet initial observations reveal that nearly one third of the participants argue for less severe alternative punishment than they had proposed before participating. Furthermore, they are more willing to discuss related issues such as prison reform, protection of victims and crime prevention. |
