Influenced by the ideological trend of the international gender mainstreaming, Taiwan has also enacted the 'Act of Gender Equality in Employment,' which is basically divided into three scopes: (1) prohibition of sexual discrimination; (2) prevention of sexual harassment; (3) measures to promote gender equality in employment. In aspects of employment and economy, the relevant complementary measures are established, by means of guaranteed employment opportunities and support for maternal role, to improve the female role and status in the workplace and achieve the goal of gender equality. 'Gender equality' is the necessary civic literacy for the global citizen and also the developing trend of 'Prohibition of Employment Discrimination' in the global workplace. This paper will first discuss the ideological trend in gender equality and sources of law, then analyze cases of the sexual discrimination in the workplaces, and finally explore the implementation phenomena that the Act of Gender Equality in Employment is encountering, including implementation problems and disputes. Some suggestions on implementing the gender equality in the workplaces are made at the end. |
