Category Norms in Chinese and English from Bilingual Subjects

Complete normative data (in Chinese with English translation) are presented for responses to 54 verbal categories (in Chinese translation) by students from National Taiwan University (N=100) and Chung Yuan Christian College or Science and Engineering (N=85). All categories from the Maryland-Illinois norms were included except the categories of 'A Girl's First Name' and 'A Male's First Name' since Chinese has no comparable systems for calling girl's and boy's first names-The data included all responses given by each S to each category name with in 60 sec. Another comparable sample of 185 students from the two schools responded within 30 sec. with English words to each of 56 categories of the Maryland-Illinois norms presented in English. These English norms are presented in separate tables.
