在先前的研究（劉、莊、1970）曾評定一千二百個常用字之有意義度，並對每一刺激字列出最多聯想字與次多聯想字。但是弱聯想字（weak associates）如同強聯想字（strong associates），在研究語文學習與行為時也相當重要。因此世界各國對其本國文字均定有聯想字常模。

The word associations elicited by 1,200 Chinese characters are listed in the order of frequency. The characters are arranged in the same order of scaled value as in the previous study (Liu & Chuang, 1970). The associations for each character was collected from 250 freshmen by asking them to write down the first associate.
